Titre : Academic writing and plagiarism : A linguistic analysis Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Pecorari,Diane Editeur : London : Bloomsbury Academic Année de publication : 2015 Importance : 214P. Présentation : ill.en col. Format : 23cm. ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-1-4725-8910-1 Langues : Anglais (eng) Langues originales : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : linguistics Résumé : Plagiarism has long been regarded with concern by the university community as a serious act of wrongdoing threatening core academic values. There has been a perceived increase in plagiarism over recent years, due in part to issues raised by the new media, a diverse student population and the rise in English as a lingua franca. This book examines plagiarism, the inappropriate relationship between a text and its sources, from a linguistic perspective. Diane Pecorari brings recent linguistic research to bear on plagiarism, including processes of first and second language writers; interplay between reading and writing; writer's identity and voice; and the expectations of the academic discourse community. Using empirical data drawn from a large sample of student writing, compared against written sources, Academic Writing and Plagiarism argues that some plagiarism, in this linguistic context, can be regarded as a failure of pedagogy rather than a deliberate attempt to transgress. The book examines the implications of this gap between the institutions' expectations of the students, student performance and institutional awareness, and suggests pedagogic solutions to be implemented at student, tutor and institutional levels Academic writing and plagiarism : A linguistic analysis [texte imprimé] / Pecorari,Diane . - London : Bloomsbury Academic, 2015 . - 214P. : ill.en col. ; 23cm.

Présentation : ill. en col. Format : 23cm. ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-1-4725-6670-6 Langues : Anglais (eng) Langues originales : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Soldiers, literature Résumé : In Conflict and Soldiers' Literature in Early Modern Europe, Paul Scannell analyses the late 16th-century and early 17th-century literature of warfare through the published works of English, Welsh and Scottish soldiers. The book explores the dramatic increase in printed material on many aspects of warfare; the diversity of authors, the adaptation of existing writing traditions and the growing public interest in military affairs. There is an extensive discussion on the categorisation of soldiers, which argues that soldiers' works are under-used evidence of the developing professionalism among military leaders at various levels. Through analysis of autobiographical material, the thought process behind an individual's engagement with an army is investigated, shedding light on the relevance of significant personal factors such as religious belief and the concept of loyalty. The narratives of soldiers reveal the finer details of their experience, an enquiry that greatly assists in understanding the formidable difficulties that were faced by individuals charged with both administering an army and confronting an enemy. This book provides a reassessment of early modern warfare by viewing it from the perspective of those who experienced it directly. Paul Scannell highlights how various types of soldier viewed their commitment to war, while also considering the impact of published early modern material on domestic military capability - the 'art of war'. Titre : A critical introduction to phonology functional and usage-based perspectives Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Silverman,Daniel Editeur : London : Bloomsbury Academic Année de publication : 2017 Collection : Bloomsbury critical introduction to linguistics Importance : 338P. Présentation : ill.en col. Format : 23cm. ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-1-4742-3889-2 Langues : Anglais (eng) Langues originales : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Phonetic Résumé : Taking an interdisciplinary approach to phonological theory and analysis, A Critical Introduction to Phonology introduces the key aspects of the discipline. Departing from the mainstream tradition, Daniel Silverman argues that the nature of linguistic sound systems can only be understood in the context of how they are used by speakers and listeners. By proposing that linguistic sound systems are the product of an interaction among sound (acoustics), mind (cognition), and body (physiology), Silverman focuses on the functional consequences of their interaction. Now with each chapter supplemented by a section on "Doing Phonology", together with phonological examples from a large corpus of data, this expanded second edition offers a provocative introduction to phonological theory. This book is essential reading for all students and researchers of phonology who are already familiar with the standard approaches and provides both a new theoretical background and the mechanical tools for truly successful phonological analyses A critical introduction to phonology functional and usage-based perspectives [texte imprimé] / Silverman,Daniel . - London : Bloomsbury Academic, 2017 . - 338P. : ill.en col. ; 23cm.. - (Bloomsbury critical introduction to linguistics) .
